National Programme For Prevention & Control of Deafness (NPPCD)
Nagaland with a population of 1988636, it is estimated to be having about 125284 persons with hearing impairment, if prevalence rate of WHO is considered. Nagaland with difficult terrains and very bad/nil public transportation, have made it more difficult for the people to access the health facilities. Therefore, it is expected that many of the preventable and curable hearing disabilities are been left unattended. Therefore the number of people with hearing impairment could be more than the estimated number.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
1. To prevent the avoidable hearing loss on account of disease or injury.
2. Early identification, diagnosis and treatment of ear problems responsible for hearing loss and deafness.
3. To medically rehabilitate persons of all age groups, suffering with deafness.
4. To strengthen the existing inter-sectoral linkages for continuity of the rehabilitation programme, for persons with deafness.
